paleoevangelical: Irreverent "Worship"
Here is a link to a short discussion concerning somebody's idea that the form of worship reveals a lack of genuine reverence. (My comment in the stream was simply ignored.) paleoevangelical: Irreverent "Worship"

Your comment was the most rational of the bunch. Of course the idea that worship services are tied to cultural preferences sounds way too slippery/squishy for people who feel that everything must be black and white. Well, there is a whole lot more white in places that those people think is all gray (and thus suspect). These are the people who might say that something is "technically permitted" but to be avoided.
ReplyDeleteWhen I say I have a "high church soul" it means that I prefer formality and a certain tradition. I have sat through formal services, though, during which I saw little reverence. That grieved me--that most to all of a congregation would remain unmoved by the beauty of the prayers, the hymns, the scripture, the sermon. But that lack of reverence did not originate in the method or style of worship but in the failure to recognize God for who He is.
